Abstract

Gayo coffee is one of Indonesia's leading commodities that has obtained Geographical Indication (IG) certification. However, the implementation of legal protection for these products still faces various challenges, such as price disparities at the farmer level and low awareness of farmers' awareness of the benefits of IG. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of legal protection for Gayo Coffee based on Law No. 20 of 2016 concerning Trademarks and Geographical Indications, as well as evaluate the direct impact of IG on the welfare of farmers. The method used is empirical juridical with a qualitative approach through interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that although IG certification provides legal recognition for Gayo Coffee, its implementation is still not optimal in increasing the bargaining power of farmers. This study recommends the need for institutional strengthening and legal socialization among farmers to maximize the economic benefits of the IG system.
