Abstract

The family is the first and foremost social institution in Islam, playing a central role in shaping personality, morality, and societal stability. In this context, Islamic law functions not only as a normative framework but also as a moral and social instrument that guides household life toward the ideals of sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah (SAMAWA). This study aims to examine the role of Islamic law in the formation of the ideal family by employing the maqashid al-shariah approach as its analytical framework. The research adopts a normative qualitative method through library research based on the Qur’an, Hadith, classical and contemporary fiqh texts, and academic literature related to maqashid. The findings reveal that the five core principles of maqashid hifz al-din (protection of religion), hifz al-nafs (protection of life), hifz al-‘aql (protection of intellect), hifz al-nasl (protection of lineage), and hifz al-mal (protection of property) can be practically applied within household life. This approach provides an integrative solution for maintaining harmony, justice, and the sustainability of the family in accordance with Islamic values. Thus, maqashid al-shariah can serve as a strategic paradigm for building resilient Muslim families amid the challenges of the modern era.
