Abstract

This article discusses the effectiveness of laws in protecting geographical indications in Indonesia, which are an important part of intellectual property rights. Geographical indications serve to protect products that have certain qualities and reputations that are influenced by the geographical conditions of an area. Although Indonesia has great potential in developing high-quality products, challenges such as lack of public understanding and government support still hamper the effectiveness of this protection. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach, involving literature analysis and in-depth interviews with representatives of the geographical indication protection community. The results of the study indicate that adequate legal protection is essential to prevent counterfeiting and ensure maximum benefits for producing communities, as well as contributing to local economic development and the sustainability of natural resources
