Abstract

This paper explores the role of patent rights in protecting technological innovation in Indonesia and evaluates the effectiveness of Law No. 13/2016. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach through literature review, it highlights major challenges, including weak substantive examination, low public awareness, and limited digital infrastructure. Despite these issues, patents hold strategic value for fostering innovation and technology transfer. This article proposes practical solutions such as simplified procedures for simple patents, better examiner training, and digital protection systems. Strengthened collaboration among government, academia, and industry is essential to build a patent system that is fair, efficient, and globally responsive.
