Abstract

This research aims to explore the role of the trade sector in Indonesia's economic progress from the
perspective of Islamic economics. The trade sector has a significant impact on national economic
development, especially in job creation and smooth distribution of goods and services. However, in
daily practice, trading activities in Indonesia still face a number of challenges such as fraud, price
manipulation, and weak implementation of business ethics in accordance with sharia principles. The
approach taken in this study is qualitative descriptive with a literature study method. Data was obtained
from various sources of scientific literature, books, and official publications relevant to the theme of
Islamic economic development and the trade sector. The analysis was carried out by reviewing the
concept of development in Islam through the theory of maqashid al-sharia and Islamic economic values
based on justice, integrity, and social welfare (al-falah). The findings of this study show that trade in the
Islamic view is not only an economic activity, but also a form of worship that is full of moral and social
values. By applying the principles of maqashid al-sharia, trading activities can be directed to achieve
benefits for the community and avoid harmful practices such as usury, fraud, and exploitation. The
integration of Islamic values into the trade sector can strengthen economic development that is just,
sustainable, and pays attention to the welfare of the people.
