Abstract

The acceleration of digital transformation has changed the global business competitive landscape, requiring Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia to adapt responsively to remain relevant and competitive. This article analyzes effective digitalization strategies for MSMEs in increasing competitiveness in the digital economy era. Through a review of the latest literature, case studies on several region-based MSMEs, as well as in-depth interviews with MSME actors and facilitators, this study identifies three key pillars: (1) technology adoption including the use of e-commerce platforms, digital payment systems, and operational process automation; (2) strengthening digital capacity includes increasing digital literacy, data management training, and continuous mentoring; and (3) ecosystem collaboration is seen in strategic partnerships with marketplaces, financial institutions, and local governments for access to capital, markets, and infrastructure. The findings show that MSMEs that implement these three pillars in an integrated manner have experienced an increase in average online sales by 35%, operational cost efficiency of up to 20%, and market expansion to national and even international segments. Key obstacles include limited seed capital for technology investments, low digital literacy, and lack of responsive regulatory support. This study recommends fiscal incentive policies for digital investments, structured cross-stakeholder training programs, and the development of inclusive digital infrastructure in the regions. Thus, digitalization is not just an option, but an imperative strategy for MSMEs to strengthen competitiveness, encourage national economic growth, and support the achievement of sustainable development goals in Indonesia.
